Software Engineer (m/f/d)
Berlin,
Germany
At LIQUIDLOOP, our vision is to accelerate research & innovation in green energy and chemistry technologies.
Our mission is to create the next-generation hardware for chemical technology processes, starting with electrochemical conversion of CO2 to green hydrocarbons. We aim to create hardware technology that provides the necessary tools to revolutionize power-to-X and carbon capture technologies through quick analysis and testing.
We are currently focusing on developing a laboratory research instrument for electrochemistry, a field that will enable the energy transition and shift from use of fossil fuels to green, sustainable fuels and chemicals coming from renewable energy sources.
The LIQUIDLOOP team develops an all-encompassing hardware-software mass spectrometry analysis system, offering a real-time and precise chemical detection and identification of volatile liquid and gas products from a liquid, made possible by our patented “Product-to-Gas interface” technology.
Our history:
LIQUIDLOOP technology reveals a unique approach for real-time chemical monitoring due to many years of development. Founded in 2021, LIQUIDLOOP is the first exclusive liquid real-time detection company focusing entirely on the carbon-neutral fuels research. In 2022 LIQUIDLOOP set up production of its first devices and delivered them to academic customers. As of today, the LIQUIDLOOP product portfolio counts already with four commercialised product
We are looking for a technically skilled and hands-on Software Engineer to join our growing team at LIQUIDLOOP. This is a full-time role based in Berlin, where you will work at the intersection of software development, electronics integration, and laboratory automation. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining control software, supporting electronics integration, and assisting in the deployment of our scientific devices in customer laboratory environments. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, building reliable systems, and contributing to the development of high-performance instruments in the field of electrochemistry and analytical technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain control and automation software
- Integrate LIQUIDLOOP systems into customer laboratories
-
Design and develop intuitive user interfaces
-
Develop software-based validation and diagnostic tools
- Develop tools for data processing and visualization
Must Have
- Strong experience in software development
-
Experience working with scientific instrumentation, hardware companies, or R&D environments
- Solid understanding of communication interfaces and device integration
- Experience in front-end development and user interface design
-
Ability to translate the needs of scientists and laboratory users into practical software solutions.
Nice to have
- Experience with scientific data analysis and visualization tools.
-
Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation, electrochemistry, or mass spectrometry systems.
-
Knowledge of data acquisition systems and experimental workflow software.
- Experience supporting system installation, commissioning, or technical troubleshooting
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and maintain control and automation software for LIQUIDLOOP devices using modern programming environments (C-based and Python), ensuring the reliable operation of our scientific instrumentation and supporting the interaction between device control, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
- Integrate LIQUIDLOOP systems into customer laboratory environments by configuring communication interfaces, sensors, and external laboratory equipment (e.g., serial communication, TCP/IP, PLC interfaces), ensuring stable system operation, reliable data exchange, and compatibility with existing laboratory infrastructure.
- Design and implement intuitive user interfaces and software tools that improve usability for scientists and laboratory users, supporting the full development cycle from concept and architecture to implementation and testing (preferred technologies: React.js, HTML/CSS, .NET MAUI, or WPF).
- Develop and perform software-based validation and diagnostic routines to evaluate device performance, ensuring that hardware components, sensors, and control systems operate according to defined specifications and quality standards, and supporting troubleshooting during testing, production, and system commissioning.
- Develop and maintain data processing and analysis tools to support the evaluation, visualization, and reporting of experimental results generated by LIQUIDLOOP systems, while leveraging modern development tools and AI-assisted coding platforms to improve development efficiency, documentation, and software reliability.
Requirements:
- Experience working in hardware companies, scientific instrumentation, or R&D-driven environments, ideally involving analytical or laboratory equipment.
- Strong background in software development, with hands-on experience in system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of sensor integration and communication interfaces (e.g., serial communication, TCP/IP, PLC interfaces), with focus on system configuration and data exchange rather than low-level hardware design.
- Ability to understand and translate customer needs — particularly those of scientists and laboratory users — into practical software and system solutions.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to support efficient software development, debugging, and documentation.
- A structured, solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance development tasks alongside production support and system commissioning.
- Business-level proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team spanning software, hardware, and operations.
